Russia plans military offensive against Ukraine, US says

The intelligence services of USA have determined that Russia is planning a possible military offensive against Ukraine It could start in early 2022 and would include some 175,000 troops, according to a US official.

The new finding estimates that half of the Russian personnel are already deployed at various points near the border with Ukraine, according to the president’s government official Joe Biden, who spoke on condition of not being identified to discuss the matter.

The revelation was made at a time when Russia has insisted on his demands to Biden to guarantee that he will not be allowed to Ukraine join the OTAN.

The official added that the plans contemplate the transfer of 100 battalion tactical groups, along with armor, artillery and equipment.

Intelligence officials have also detected an increase in the use of agents and media by Russia to denigrate Ukraine and NATO ahead of a possible invasion, the official added.
