Norway confirms 50 cases of omicron after Christmas party

At least 50 people in the capital of Norway and its surroundings have the omicron variant of the coronavirus and the cases are related to a company’s Christmas party at a restaurant in Oslo, authorities reported Thursday.

“More cases are expected. A scan is being carried out to limit transmission routes and prevent major outbreaks ”, said the Municipality of Oslo it’s a statement.

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health said those affected live in Oslo and surrounding municipalities, and “The infection detection team in Oslo has contacted interested municipalities to initiate infection detection.”

The government agency said there was “High vaccination coverage” in the group, adding that in total they have registered “More than 50 cases” on Norway. The country’s first two cases were announced Monday.

On Wednesday, the city of Oslo urged people who visited two restaurants in the capital to get tested. One was reportedly the location where the Christmas party was held.

Much is still unknown about the new variant, if it is more contagious as some health authorities suspect, or if it prevents the action of vaccines.
