New York: Four weeks begin with discounts at more than 500 restaurants

Some 500 restaurants in NY participate from this Monday in the popular Week of the Restaurants that allows residents and visitors to enjoy the varied gastronomy of this city at more affordable prices.

During this week, which actually lasts for a month, diners will have access to lunches and dinners -with a starter plus a main course, or a main course plus dessert- for $30, $45 or $60 in different neighborhoods of the five boroughs of the city, according to a statement from New York City Tourism + Conventions, which organizes the campaign.

Those prices do not include tips, which New York restaurants routinely suggest should be between 18% and 25% of the invoice.

A list of participating restaurants and their varied culinary styles can be found at nyctourism.com/restaurantweek.

“We are proud to celebrate the 31st edition of Restaurant Week, which offers New Yorkers, Hispanics and visitors the opportunity to experience nearly 500 world-class restaurants with a wide range of culinary styles”said Fred Dixon, president and CEO of New York City Tourism + Conventions.

He stressed that the event is a “valuable and magnificent celebration” of the gastronomy that can be found in “the gastronomic capital of the world”.

While chef David Burke, co-chairman of the organization’s Culinary Committee, recalled that since 1992 this week has been a special tradition every summer to give people the opportunity to discover new restaurants and different styles of cuisine at affordable prices.

“We are extremely pleased that this initiative is returning and welcoming New Yorkers, Hispanics and visitors this summer to a more exciting and vibrant dining scene than ever before”he claimed.

Restaurant Week has been so successful that it has now been repeated in January, coinciding with the high season of winter holidays in New York.
