The first program of radio in Poland presented by a artificial intelligence (AI) began its broadcasts this weekend.
“Hello, I’m Basia and you’re hearing right: I’m an artificial intelligence, this is not a joke. Fascinating, right?”were the first words on the air of the virtual presenter that the Polish station Radio Piekary launched last Saturday.
The radio program, lasting one hour, consists of “animation, answers to questions from listeners, the weather forecast, light news and songs presented by Basia”the editor-in-chief of the station, Rafal Kurowski, explained to the Polish media on Monday.
“The songs included in the program are chosen by the station team”, clarified Kurowski, who described the project as “fun experiment for summer” which will last until September. “But if the reception of the listeners is good, it will continue to be broadcast”he added.
To promote the new program, Radio Piekary has created a virtual image of Basia and has even created profiles on social networks through which listeners can send him requests for greetings on the air, questions or requests for songs.
It is still a curiosity that the debut of this virtual presenter took place on World Brain Day, a circumstance that the editor of the station pointed out as “causality”, while clarifying that “No employee will be replaced by a artificial intelligence”.
On April 23, the Polish Minister of Justice, Zbigniew Ziobro, defended the possibility that there are judicial sentences issued by artificial intelligence (AI), a technology whose use in the judicial system is, he said, “a need”, because “In simple and repetitive cases, (AI) can make it easier for judges to select the best course of action, and even issue the sentence and its justification.”
