The US wants to boost trade with emerging economies, says Yellen

USA wants to include emerging economies such as Vietnam in its privileged commercial exchanges, declared this Friday the US Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellenvisiting that Southeast Asian country.

Friend-shoring is not reserved for long-standing allies, Yellen declared during a speech in Hanoi, alluding to Washington’s philosophy of prioritizing exchanges between neighboring countries or allies.

The world economy has been rocked in recent years by supply chain ruptures and the great Western powers are seeking to diversify their partners to become less dependent on China and Russia, seen as potential systemic rivals.

“We are undertaking supply chain efforts and let me be very clear: ‘friend-shoring’ is not reserved for an exclusive club of countries”affirmed the North American official.

In the communist country, Yellen met with senior political and economic officials.

United States and Vietnam where many manufacturing giants have a presence, have increasingly close trade relations and are wary of China’s growing influence in the region.
