In June, for the first time in the European Union, more registrations of electric cars than diesel cars were recorded. Car sales in the EU rose sharply in the last month.

Car sales increased significantly in the first half of the year. One million new passenger cars were registered in June alone, up 17.8% year on year. more than a year earlier – reported the European industry association Acea. The increase in registrations in the entire first half of the year was 17.9 percent. 5.4 million were admitted to traffic at that time. This is a clear rebound after 2022, when car production stopped due to the lack of chips and some other parts.

Cars. The end of the crisis in the automotive industry?

According to the Acer association, the industry is recovering from the crisis after supply chain disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic. However, EU-wide registrations are 21 percent lower. less in the first half of 2019 – the British market, which at that time was still part of the EU, was excluded from the statistics. In most regions of the EU, car sales increased significantly in the first half of the year, including in the largest markets. In Spain it is an increase of 24 percent, in Italy – by almost 23 percent, in France – by 15 percent, and in almost 13 percent.

Registration of electric cars: a breakthrough

It was also a breakthrough for electricians: in June, for the first time in the EU, there were more registrations of purely electric cars than motor vehicles . And this despite the noticeable problems with the availability of chargers. Out of the 5.4 million registrations in the first half of the year in the EU, almost 703,600 were all-electric cars – an increase of almost 54%. compared to the same period in 2022. At that time, 789,500 diesels were put into service.

Around 158,250 electricians were registered in June alone – almost two-thirds more than a year earlier. For diesel vehicles, registrations fell more than 9 percent in June to around 139,600 units.
