Trump Supporters Charge Michigan “Fake Voters” with Fraud

Sixteen supporters of the former US president donald trump in the state of Michigan were charged Tuesday with forgery for joining a scheme “false voters” to reverse the electoral defeat of the Republican politician in 2020.

The accusations are the first against participants in the scheme, which after the November 2020 election tried to illegally register Trump as the winner in seven states, which would have given him victory nationally, when Joe Biden actually defeated him.

The failure of the scheme “false voters” it was a key cause for the violent assault on the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, the date on which Biden was certified the victor.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said the 16 defendants illegally claimed to be state representatives when the electoral college votes were counted.

About three weeks before January 6, the men met in a manner “covert” in the basement of the Michigan Republican Party headquarters and signed several certificates declaring they were electors for that state, Nessel said.

The documents were later transferred to the US Senate in an effort to have their votes counted instead of those cast by Michigan’s true voters and to reverse Biden’s statewide and national victory, he said.

“This plan, to reject the will of the voters and undermine democracy, was fraudulent and without legal basis”he added.

The defendants face multiple counts of conspiracy, forgery and fraud, which can carry up to 14 years in prison each.

According to the investigation, the fake voter scheme was led by two attorneys close to Tump, Rudy Giuliani and John Eastman.

This announcement came the same day that Trump said he had received a letter from the prosecution suggesting he is likely to be criminally charged for the Jan. 6 voter fraud scheme and subsequent attack on the Capitol.
