The jury that will decide whether to charge Trump with electoral interference has already been chosen

The grand jury that will assess whether the former US president donald trump (2017-2021) is accused of trying to annul the victory of the Democrat Joe Biden in the state of Georgia in 2020 was elected this Tuesday.

CNN noted that the group was appointed after a three-hour selection process in Atlanta, the state capital. In total, there are 52 people divided into two groups, each with 23 jurors and 3 substitutes, who will meet separately 2 times a week for 2 months.

Only one of the two groups will be in charge of approving the possible imputation and their decision could be known as soon as next August. For the accusation to be validated, 16 of the 23 members must be present and at least 12 of them vote in favor, the CNN channel specified.

The case looks at whether Trump and others committed crimes by lobbying that state’s politicians in connection with the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Part of the investigations focused on the call that Trump made in January 2021 to the secretary of Georgia, Brad Raffensperger, in which he asked him to “will find” thousands of votes in his favor in that state, in which Biden prevailed.

Trump was already indicted last June before a court in Miami (Florida) for illegal retention of government secrets, obstruction of justice and conspiracy, among other crimes. It was the first time in the history of the country in which a former president was indicted with federal charges and that accusation came in the midst of the pre-campaign for the 2024 presidential elections.

The former president had also been indicted in March in a Manhattan (New York) court for irregular payments to silence porn actress Stormy Daniels during her 2016 election campaign. This was the first criminal offense charge launched against a former US president, in that case at the state level.

On the other hand, on May 9, after a civil trial, a jury sentenced Trump to pay compensation of 5 million dollars to the writer Jean Carroll for having sexually abused her years ago and for having later defamed her. when he publicly denounced the facts.
