From brilliant students to ruthless criminals, the story of Texas’ killer cadets

Both Diane and David were sentenced to life in prison.

At 14, David Graham and Diane Zamora were full of dreams, ideals, and hopes; they were honor cadets in their respective schools and wanted to be a pilot and an astronaut, respectively. Their paths met for the first time in 1991, during a meeting of volunteers from the Civil Air Patrol at Spinks airport, in the state of Texas-United States.

The shared enthusiasm made this couple fall in love, make their courtship official and later get engaged. Yet Graham and Zamora shared more than hope for a bright future: they had committed a crime that would be the apex of a life full of murder.

The story is collected by an article published by Infobae; and according to the portal, a third person appears on stage. It is about 16-year-old Adrianne Jones, who dreamed of becoming a “behavior analyst”; however, he never had the necessary knowledge to anticipate what would be his own crime.

The mistake was falling in love with David. The publication claims that it was on November 4, 1995, when Graham brought Jones home after a regional cross-country team competition where they participated together. Inside the car, due to mutual attraction, they had sex but David had a girlfriend.

Diane’s intuition did not allow her to live in deception. After the passionate encounter with Adrianne, David went to visit his girlfriend Diane with a gift: a giant stuffed animal. The fight between the couple was intense and the feeling of guilt made the young man confess his infidelity: he told him that he had had sex with Adrianne Jones.

The discussion was strong and ended with Diane lying on the floor, in an uncontrolled attack of nerves, shouting: “Kill her, kill her, kill her !!!”. David, scared, tried to change the environment but Diane threatened to leave him or to commit suicide if he did not kill Adrianne. The young man felt trapped and agreed, killing her with a shot in the cheek and another in the middle of the forehead.

After the murder, the couple continued their relationship as if nothing had happened, until a month later, on December 4, 1995, a farmer in the sector found the body, but luckily for the couple, no one linked that death to them. At least not immediately.

Nine months after the murder, in early September 1996, detectives received crucial statements. Two roommates claimed that Zamora confessed her crime as a boast to show off the love her boyfriend had for her.

This testimony was supported by another friend of Zamora, one who was sentimentally interested in her, but who warned of what his girlfriend would be able to do for love. “She basically told me: I told her to kill her. She felt she deserved it because she had messed with a possession of hers. And he said that, if I had to do it again, I would do it again, “said Diane Zamora’s suitor.

The authorities captured the couple and it was David who ended up confessing what happened after failing the lie detector. He assured that he did it out of love because there was no third party that could ruin his story with Diane.

On February 17, 1998, after two days of deliberation, the jury found Diane Zamora guilty. She was sentenced to life and could be released on parole in 2036, after serving 40 years in prison. By then he will be 58 years old.

David Graham was tried a few months later, on July 24, and received the same sentence. (I)
