The Argentine government offered Uruguay a series of water supplies to alleviate the water crisis that this country is suffering due to a prolonged drought, according to official sources in Argentina.
The Government of Alberto Fernández sent a note to the Uruguayan Foreign Ministry on July 4 in which it offers the possibility of making available a mobile water treatment plant with a production of 1,700 half-liter sachets per hour and the displacement of operators to develop the production.
In addition, Argentina offered to send an Argentine Navy ship of the “Aviso” type, with a 300-ton water tank provided by the company Aguas y Saneamientos Argentinos (Aysa).
The Uruguayan Foreign Ministry responded through a letter in which it stated that “while thanking and accepting said offer, it makes it known that, due to the dynamics of the situation under permanent evaluation, it will make known the opportunity of the same”.
The offer of the Argentine government is intended to respond to vulnerable populations affected by the water crisis, centered in the city of Montevideo and the metropolitan area.
The Uruguayan government decreed a water emergency for the Montevideo area and its surroundings, whose running water supply has been affected since May by a prolonged drought.
