At least 994 people were arrested in France and 79 police officers were injured during the fourth consecutive night of riots over the death of a young man at the hands of the police last Tuesday, when he tried to flee from a road control.

The figures were reported by French Ministry of the Interiorindicating that it is a provisional balance updated until 7.30 am, reports the Efe Agency.

They attack an armory during the protests

An armory has been assaulted during the protests in Marseille, from which several have been stolen hunting rifles, but according to police sources without ammunition. The store owner has described that he saw some “30 young people with a clear intention” and has denounced that its provisions “are no longer safe”, as reported by the French newspaper ‘Le Parisien’.

The Bouches-du-Rhône department police have published on their Twitter account that they have already made 80 arrests so far tonight, for which their mayor has requested reinforcements: “In Marseille, the scenes of looting and violence they are unacceptable. I strongly condemn these acts of vandalism and I ask the State to immediately send forces additional police officers“.

Mbappé calls for an end to violence

Mbappé added that “it is your property that you are destroyingyour neighborhoods, your cities, your places of fullness and proximity”, and adds that many of the players come from “Popular neighbourhoods. “We cannot remain silent and our civic awareness encourages us to call for appeasement, conscience and responsibility”, he continued. “There are other peaceful and constructive ways of expressing oneself: the time of violence must end to give step to mourning, dialogue and the reconstruction“, has settled.
