First case of Omicron variant identified in Sweden

The European country joins the list of localities in which the South African variant has entered, as well as Spain, Denmark and Germany.

Sweden has detected the first case of the omicron variant of covid in a person who recently returned from South Africa, as reported by the Swedish Public Health Agency this Monday.

The variant was detected in a sample taken just over a week ago. a person residing in Skane province, in the south of the country, according to a statement from the Agency.

According to the newspaper “Dagens Nyheter”, there are two other suspected cases in the city of Jönköping, in the south of the country, also linked to South Africa, which have not yet been confirmed.
