Russian military and security services managed to stop a civil war during the 24-hour armed rebellion by the Russian mercenary group Wagner. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in a speech from the Kremlin’s Cathedral Square with representatives of Russia’s security and defense agencies that participated in the anti-terrorist operation over the weekend.

“You protected the constitutional order, life, security and freedom of our citizens, they saved our country of shocks, stopped a civil war“said the president.

With this act, Putin wanted to convey a message that everything is in order and that there will be continuity after what happened.

The truth is that this same Tuesday the Russian authorities have announced the closure of the case opened by the armed rebellion. The Federal Security Service (FSB) has indicated that during the investigations it has been determined that the participants in the uprising put an end to their “criminal actions”.

“In the framework of the investigation of a case opened on June 23 by the Investigative Department of the FSB under article 279 of the Criminal Code of Russia for the fact of an armed rebellion, it has been established that the participants detained on June 24 their actions, aimed directly at committing a crime,” he specified.

Thus, the body has emphasized that “taking into account this and other circumstances relevant to the investigation, the investigating authority has decided on June 27 to issue a decision to close the case.”

The announcement came a day after Russian media reported that the case for rebellion against the head of the group, Yevgeni Prigozhin, was still open, following Moscow’s commitment to drop the charges against him under the aforementioned agreement.
