Indian police are investigating an alleged fraudster who spent nearly two years in a five-star hotel without paying for allegedly bribing staff to fix records, local media reported Thursday.
Ankush Dutta booked a room at New Delhi’s Roseate House Hotel on May 30, 2019 and was supposed to leave the next day.
But he extended his stay for 603 nights until he checked out on January 22, 2021, leaving behind $70,000 worth of unpaid bills.
“Accounts were falsified to hide actual outstanding debts”, specifies the police complaint, quoted by the Indian Express newspaper.
Those responsible for the hotel also filed a police complaint against several employees for conspiracy, forgery and fraud.
Officials said they suspected that staff members had been bribed to manipulate internal computer systems.
Officials at the Roseate House could not be immediately reached.
