Ramon regrets Brazil’s lack of effectiveness against Senegal: “It wasn’t the result we expected”

Coach Ramon Menezes made his assessment of the defeat of Brazil to Senegal, this Tuesday (20). At Estádio José Alvalade, in Lisbon, the Selection took the turn from the African team and left with a setback for Portugal: 4 a 2 — Habib Diallo, Marquinhos (against) and Mané (twice) scored for the Africans, while Lucas Paquetá and Marquinhos — this time, in favor — scored for Amarelinha.

The defeat in Brazil’s last match before the start of the Qualifiers generated a negative mark: the Selection conceded four goals in the same match for the first time since July 8, 2014, when it was defeated by 7-1 by Germany in the semifinals of the World Cup from 2014.

According to Ramon Menezes, the team even started well, but lacked effectiveness in the last third of the field — something that did not happen with Senegal.

“It was not the result we expected. We worked together all week, you (journalists) followed the work, the condition of the work. A very difficult game against a team that did very well in the World Cup. We know the difficulties we would face. face. A great lesson (the match). The game itself: we started very well, having control of the actions, doing what we worked on during the week. Goal after 10 minutes with Paquetá, we also had a great opportunity to expand soon then. And then you are facing a great team too, with experienced players, used to this type of game”, he declared after the match.

According to the interim coach, Aliou Cissé’s charges managed to score in “the very few opportunities they had”.

“They managed to control the first half as well, we already conceded a goal. In the second half, right at the beginning, they were happy to score the second — and we always look for an organization to leave the opponent behind. But like that, we circulated the ball a lot — but with little definition in the last third of the field. In the chance they had, Mané, with great happiness, managed to score the third goal. We are still looking, if you take possession of the ball… but they managed to be more effective in the last third of the field. With the very few opportunities they had, they scored the goals”, concluded Ramon.

Senegal pace was more intense?

“In football, we demand this a lot: to compete. It’s very important for you to compete, this group knows that, it’s experienced. They know we need to compete, because Brazilian football, with talent… we don’t even need to talk. We knew it was a game of competition, first ball, second ball. When they lose the ball, they would kill the play – as they did. They made our offensive transition difficult.”

Interim situation

“Whenever the national team needs it, I’ll be ready to help. I think that’s part of my personality, which is courage. I’m here to help and whenever the president needs it, I’ll be available. the most important thing is courage. Today, we could have left here with a crowned job, which was our objective. But in football, either you win, or you learn. So, we leave here learning a lot, with a lesson, gaining strength. That is important for this group, which will face several challenges ahead.”

Future not Brazil

“At this moment, I’m going to rest. I’m going to wait for the president to contact me, so we can sit down, talk and see my position within the CBF. Always with the objective of helping.”
