Magnitude 7.5 earthquake with an epicenter in the Peruvian Amazon was felt in Ecuador

An earthquake of magnitude 7.5 was registered at 05:52 this Sunday in the Peruvian Amazon, reported the National Seismological Center of Peru on its social networks.

The entity indicates that the movement had a depth of 131km and was located 98 km east of Sta. María De Nieva, Condorcanqui – Amazonas.

The movement was strongly felt in distant sectors, even in Ecuadorian towns such as Guayaquil, Quevedo, Durán, as well as Quito, Cuenca or Santo Domingo. At the moment there are no known people affected or structural damage.

This is the second earthquake of great intensity registered in Peruvian territory in less than 24 hours, since at 01:32 another movement occurred, in this case of magnitude 5.2, which shook Lima and a neighboring area of ​​the central coast of the country, without causing victims or tsunami alert.

On that occasion, the earthquake had its epicenter 44 kilometers west of Callao, the neighboring port of the Peruvian capital, and at a depth of 65 km, the Geophysical Institute reported.

The shaking lasted for more than 30 seconds, causing the population of some neighborhoods of Lima to win the streets in pajamas in search of safety due to fear of material damage. (I)
