Chinese telecommunication company Huawei criticized this Friday the European Union (EU) which considers that the company represents a “risk” for block security.
“The adoption of restrictions or exclusions based on discriminatory judgments presents significant economic and social risks. Could hamper innovation and distort the European market”, the firm said in a statement.
On Thursday, the European Commission, the executive arm of the EUidentified Huawei and another Chinese company, ZTE, as a security risk for the block and announced that it will veto the use of equipment from these two companies in 5G telephone networks.
“Publicly labeling a company as a high-risk supplier without a legal basis goes against the principles of free trade”noted the firm.
“Based on a wide range of available information, the European Commission considers that Huawei and ZTE do, in fact, pose materially higher risks than other 5G providers.”, stressed a document from the European Commission on Thursday.
Consequently, the Commissionwill take measures to avoid the exposure of its corporate communications to mobile networks that use Huawei and ZTE as suppliers”, he added.
Huawei tries to diversify its sources of income after US sanctions drastically affected its business with telecommunications equipment and smartphones.
Its 5G system was blocked in key markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan, due to security fears.
Huawei denies accusations that the use of its networks implies espionage risks by China.
