Five ‘influencers’ who were driving at high speed in Rome aboard a Lamborghini while filming themselves for their social networks caused the death of a five-year-old boy, various media reported on Thursday.
The accident occurred on Wednesday when the car, a rental Lamborghini carrying five young people between the ages of 20 and 23, struck a mother and her two children who were in another vehicle.
The five-year-old boy died before reaching the hospital. The 35-year-old mother and her three-year-old daughter were injured but their lives are not in danger.
Police launched a manslaughter investigation against the 20-year-old driver.
Some of the young drivers are part of a group of ‘influencers’ who share videos of their sports or recreational activities on social networks, with more than 600,000 subscribers on YouTube, 260,000 on TikTok and 88,000 on Instagram.
The accident occurred when they were attempting a challenge that consisted of driving at high speed in the Italian capital and spending 50 hours straight on board a vehicle.
