The celebration of Father’s Day in Mexico will bring economic benefits to the country for 38,500 million pesos (US$ 2,249 million), estimated this Wednesday the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur).
Father’s Day has been celebrated in the country for 51 years, since 1972 when it was made official that Mexican fathers would be celebrated in every home on the third Sunday of every June.
“In addition to an endearing moment for family life, it means, more and more, an important economic benefit for the commerce, services and tourism sector.”, pointed out Héctor Tejada, president of the Concanaco Servytur.
The leader of the tertiary sector, which brings together more than 4.5 million companies dedicated to services to tourism and commerce, indicated that the food and beverage businesses will be the most benefited from this celebration.
Likewise, retail trade, alcoholic beverages, restaurants and canteens, explained Tejada, are some of the items and establishments that Mexicans use most frequently on this day, which will be celebrated this year on June 18.
The president of the Concanaco Servytur also distinguished that, although this holiday is not yet extended as Mother’s Day, “more and more Mexicans celebrate their parents in a special way”.
“We know that, both physically and through electronic commerce, there is an upward trend in gift purchases and Father’s Day celebrations.”, stated the leader of the Mexican tertiary sector.
Tejada asked Mexicans to make their purchases in formal establishments, as he emphasized that they are the only ones capable of guaranteeing the rights of workers and consumers.
He also called for all transactions carried out in this celebration to be done responsibly, since consumption plays an important role with discounts and promotions in department stores, both through physical and digital channels.
