“An absolute solidity”

The church service was broadcast on giant screens in public buildings such as Belfast City Hall and in landmarks such as Edinburgh’s Hollyrood Park and London’s Hyde Park.

Elizabeth II “was absolutely solid,” said Simon Freedman, a bus driver, in Belfast, a week after Charles III made his first visit as the new king to the Northern Ireland capital.

And he remembered that the late queen had met with all the political parties in this troubled region and not just with the unionists loyal to the crown.

“It was available to anyone and everyone”Freedman added.

In Scotland, thousands of people gathered outside the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where his coffin was first moved earlier this week after his death on September 8 at his Scottish castle in Balmoral.

And on the cover “Royal Yacht Britannia”moored off the Scottish capital, piper Steven Dewar played a mourning tune.

Seven cathedrals in England, including the famous ones in Ely, Lichfield Liverpool, Manchester and St Albans, also screened the ceremony, which could also be seen in cinemas and other places in Wales, including a ‘pub’ where Carlos had served himself a beer for a visit in July when he was still the crown prince.

“A Huge Shock”

Despite being a holiday,we wanted to open because this is a place where people come together not only in good times, but also when we need to come together as a community”, explained its owner, Adrian Emmett.

“We all knew this day would come, but it was still a huge shock when it happened.”assured.

The funeral in London was attended by regional officials such as the First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford, and the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon.

The Scottish leader, who is leading an offensive for independence, was full of praise for the late queen.

“She was the great constant”, Sturgeon said, calling “great honor” represent Scotland at his funeral.

Thousands of people thronged to central London for the historic occasion, bursting into applause as the coffin was paraded through the streets.

“I appreciate what the queen has done for the Commonwealth and for the country,” Neale Farr, 56, originally from the southeast of England, near Buckingham Palace, told AFP.

“He always did the right thing, he always gave everything, until his last days”he underlined.

In Belfast, Professor Anna-Marie Pawson believed that Elizabeth II’s death had helped unite the country across divisions.

“There’s nothing that’s going to bring people together like this,” said. “Globally, wherever you are, this has really brought different communities together.”

However, since the queen’s death, voices have been raised advocating independence in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. And some countries of the commonwealthwho had Elizabeth II as monarch, expressed their intention to advance their plans to become republics.
