Turkish chef Salt Bae’s $100 gold-coated burgers flop in New York

The famous Turkish chef Salt Bae, more famous for his presence on social networks than for the meat he serves in his restaurants, closed his Manhattan burger joint after three years in which the most he achieved was the podium of “worst burger in new york”.

Nusret Gökçe, which is the famed chef’s real name, has failed to convince New Yorkers of the delicacy of her $100 burger served with a thin layer of gold as a wrapper.

His viral character is more associated with his image: he never takes off his round dark glasses and likes to pose with large knives while cutting large pieces of meat for his clients, supposedly of the best quality.

The media have reported since Tuesday the discreet closure of Salt Bae Burger at its Park Avenue location, in contrast to its pompous opening ceremony in February 2020, a fateful date as the city immediately went into a COVID lockdown.
