One of the main changes will be the introduction of psychological tests for seniors over 65, which will check their mental condition, functioning in a stressful situation and detect any problems with concentration. If the driver fails, then he may lose . The research will concern seniors who want to extend the validity of their driving licence. Under the new regulations, they will have to undergo examinations every two years.

Additional courses for drivers over 70 years of age

The European Commission has also announced that drivers who are over 70 will have to complete an appropriate refresher course. It was also announced that older drivers are likely to be issued a driving license for a shorter period – a maximum of five years, after which they will be required to complete tests and examinations that will check their health.

According to other proposals of the European Commission, drivers over 75 should undergo cyclical examinations even every year, while people aged 65 to 75 – every two years. Work on the new draft is still in progress and it is not known whether the new regulations will come into force in this form. It is also uncertain when exactly they will come into effect.
