Starting this Monday and for ten days, German airspace will host the NATO ‘Air Defender 2023’ maneuvers, the largest deployment of allied air forces of history in an exercise of this type, in which 25 countries of the organization will participate, including Spain.

The manoeuvres, led by Germany, are defensive in nature and They intend to demonstrate the agility and speed with which the allied force can respond in this matter.

These will be the largest exercises of this type in NATO history and a display of “unity and strength” of the Alliance, as pointed out in Berlin last Wednesday, at a press conference, by the United States ambassador to Germany, Amy Gutmann.

The US representative stressed that the most powerful message of the ‘Air Defender 2023’ maneuvers, in which more than 250 military aircraft will participate and nearly 10,000 soldiers, is that the “unity and strength” of the alliance are “key.”

He also stated that this is an exercise that “would impress anyone who saw it” adding that he would be very surprised if any world leader did not take note of what this demonstrates in terms of the spirit of this alliance, which equates to the strength of this alliance,” including Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The US diplomat stressed that “in 2023, prevention through preparation is more essential today than ever” and Air Defender 2023 is precisely a sample of the agility and speed with which the allied force in NATO can respond in terms of collective defense.
