British Labor Demand Early Election After Johnson Resigns From His Bank

The head of the Labor opposition in the United KingdomKeir Starmer, claimed on Sunday general elections early, after the resignation of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson from Parliament, which accentuated the divisions in the conservative party.

“This farce must end. Citizens already have enough” of the Conservative government, Starmer said on Twitter. Rishi Sunak, the head of government who took office in October, “You have to call elections and let the population express itself about these 13 years of failure of the conservatives”, added the opposition leader.

The Liberal Democrats also called for early elections. “The time has come for citizens to have the opportunity to speak out about this chaotic conservative government.”Said Daisy Cooper, number two of the party.

Boris Johnson, who resigned from Downing Street in July following a series of scandals, announced on Friday that he was stepping down as an MP. Two other legislators, among his closest associates, also resigned.

Johnson accused the parliamentary committee investigating the partygateabout the Downing Street parties in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic, of wanting to “throw him out of Parliament.”

In a long statement, the former British leader assured that the commission had made a report “riddled with inaccurate claims and biases.”

His resignation, and that of his Conservative allies, Nadine Dorries and Nigel Adams, lead to a by-election in three constituencies, a vote that could jeopardize the Conservative majority.

Regarding a possible return to Johnson’s politics, about to turn 59, the ultra-conservative Jacob Rees-Mogg, a very close associate, stated in the Mail On Sunday that he could “easily return to Parliament in the next elections”.
