Underscoring that Floridians have the right to control their personal data, DeSantis said in the statement: “Never again will the Big Tech oligarchs (the big technology firms) be able to manage and take over your personal information nor will they be able to deprive you of the right to access, confirm and delete the data you want.”

Rep. Fiona McFarland, a Sarasota Republican who has worked on the bill for three years, said the bill’s tougher regulations are aimed at protecting children.
