Marlon Gomes reveals the U-20 team’s support for Robert Renan after racism at the World Cup

Marlon Gomes, a defensive midfielder who belongs to Vasco, commented on the support that the squad has given to Robert Renan. The player took a stand against racist attacks and recalled the recent similar case, against Vinicius Junior, in Spain.

“We talked to him (Robert) later. We all told him that we were together. Vinicius Júnior’s case also happened now and this has to end. Racism is so ugly, even more so in football, which has children involved. I saw it the video of people making obscene gestures at him. I think racism has to end once and for all,” he said.

“Sport itself is a very sought after medium, even more so football. I think we can add by making the demonstrations that are taking place. In all games the teams sit on the ground and raise their arms. A sport as sought after as football has his greatness, helping not only Vinicius Júnior and Robert, but all people who suffer from racism all over the world”, he added.

The Brazilian under-20 team returns to the field this Saturday, at 2:30 pm (Brasília time), to face Israel in the quarterfinals. The team ended its preparation for the match this Friday, when it also visited the stage of the confrontation, the Bicentennial Stadium, in San Juan, Argentina.
