Business Council of the Pacific Alliance rejects AMLO’s request to cut relations with Peru

He Business Council of the Pacific AlliancePeru Chapter (CEAP-Peru), rejected the statements of the President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO)on the suspension of economic and commercial relations with Peru.

This declaration violates the free private initiative and the spirit of the Pacific Alliance”, stated the council.

In this sense, he stressed that the economic relationship between the two countries is framed in the Bilateral Free Trade Agreement and several multilateral treatiessuch as the CPTPP, APEC, the WTO and the Pacific Alliance.

Indeed, the economic and commercial relationship between our countries has not stopped growing. In 2012, the total value of trade was US$ 1,200 million and by 2022, that figure doubled and amounted to US$ 2,852 million.”, he recalled.

This figure represents the exports of 817 Peruvian companies of which more than 40% are Mypes. Similarly, Mexican companies have invested more than US$17 billion in Peru, generating thousands of jobs and well-being in both countries.”, he added.

In this sense, CEAP-Peru reaffirmed that the private sector will continue with its firm commitment to the defense of the principles of Pacific allianceinstitutions, good relations and the economic and social growth of their peoples.
