López Obrador proposes to buy Banamex after Citi’s announcement to place it on the stock market

This Wednesday morning the US bank Citigroup announced that it cancels the sale process of the consumer financial entity Banamex, that it will take it public and that it will remain in Mexico as a business bank.

After the announcement, Lopez Obrador assured that in Mexico “yes we need a bank” and estimated that his Administration could have up to US$ 3,000 million to offer for the bank, while another 2,000 million would be sold in shares to the Mexicans who wanted.

He indicated that he will consult with the Secretary of the Treasury to see the possibilities, since he assured that “if we have” money for the purchase.
