Direct investment from Latin America abroad was a record in 2022, according to a study

The investment directly abroad by countries of Latin America increased in 2022 by about 75% compared to the previous year, to a record of US$ 73,449 million, according to the Global LATAM 2022 report.

The region counts eleven among the one hundred largest non-financial companies from developing countries with a more prominent foreign presence.

Brazil, the leading foreign investor in the region, invested 90% more in 2022 than the previous year, some US$30.694 million, 40% of the total.

Mexico recovered its traditional cross-border investment rhythm, multiplying the investment flow by 50 to some US$ 16.878 million, 25% of the total, according to the note.

The report underlines that regional integration through direct investment flows is much more advanced than intraregional trade.

It also notes that in recent years Latin America It has an important role in the process of green transition and decarbonization of the economy.

Spain is among the main destinations for investment from Latin Americaas a gateway to the European market, says the study.

In 2022, Latin American investment in Spain was close to 1,101 million euros, although 32.9% less than in the previous year due to specific business restructuring operations.

The executive director of ICEX-Invest in Spain, Elisa Garciahighlighted in the presentation that this entity always values ​​”this role of Spain as a door for Latin American investment”, with programs for “channel this interest and bring Latin American investors closer to the existing opportunities” in the country, according to the statement.

The Ibero-American Secretary General, Andrew Allamandstressed that this fifth edition of the report reveals that in 2022 “a record for Latin American investments in the world was achieved” and “Spain continues to be one of the most attractive destinations for the internationalization processes of Latin American companies”.
