Trump Media Group Files Defamation Suit Against The Washington Post

Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the media conglomerate of the former president of the United States donald trumpfiled a lawsuit against the newspaper the washington post, whom he accuses of publishing defamatory articles and for this reason claims 3.780 million dollars in compensatory and punitive damages.

According to the complaint filed on Saturday in a Florida circuit court, the firm that operates the Truth social network denounces that the newspaper published an article on May 13 that “falselyaccuses TMTG of “securities fraud and other irregularities”, which damaged their business and reputation.

The alleged defamation of the newspaper was committed through the article entitled “Trust linked to porn-friendly bank could gain a stake in Trump’s Truth Social” (“A trust linked to a pro-pornography bank could get a stake in Trump’s Truth Social”), by journalist Drew Harwell.

The lawsuit to which EFE has had access indicates that the newspaper article contains several false statements that create “an existential threat to TMTG, causing an enormous loss”, by exposing the firm “to ridicule, contempt and public distrust”, as well as its CEO, Devin Nunes, and former President Trump.

The media conglomerate points out in its complaint that the newspaper has been in “a years-long crusade against TMTG characterized by the concealment of relevant information in its possession”

The newspaper article took testimony from Will Wilkerson, a former TMTG employee who was fired “with cause” and since then “began to fabricate and publicly sell false stories about TMTG to numerous media outlets”, including the English newspaper The Guardian, according to the complaint.

The former president has already filed other lawsuits against the media in the past.

In September 2021, he sued The New York Times newspaper and his niece, Mary Trump, for “conspire” to obtain information from his family and his tax returns and expose it in a report published by the newspaper in 2018.

On the other hand, this month a jury in New York sentenced Trump to pay compensation of about five million dollars to the writer E. Jean Carroll for having sexually abused her years ago and then for having defamed her when she publicly denounced the facts.

The tycoon rejected the ruling and claimed not to know the complainant at all.
