Russia and Peru address bilateral cooperation and fight against COVID-19

The Deputy Foreign Ministers of Russia, Sergei Riabkov, and of Peru, Luis Enrique Chávez Basagoitia, addressed bilateral cooperation, including the fight against the coronavirus, on Wednesday, Russian diplomacy reported.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the parties discussed bilateral cooperation in an environment “constructive and friendly”.

The two diplomats “reaffirmed their mutual willingness to continue strengthening strategic partnership relations”And deepen the political dialogue between Russia and Peru.

Riabkov and Chávez Basagoitia also discussed “in detail” the interaction between the two countries in international organizations and exchanged opinions about current political processes in Latin America, including issues related to regional integration.

Both also highlighted “the importance of continued cooperation in the fight against COVID-19″ Said the Russian ministry.

Peru announced last October that it will not be able to receive the 20 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine against the coronavirus, which it agreed to buy from the Gamaleya laboratory, due to production problems.

At the same time, the Peruvian authorities specified that the doses to which the Government promised were not paid, so the Russian side is not subject to any legal obligation to bring them on time.
