Walt Disney World’s Star Wars Hotel in Florida will close its doors in September

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, the Walt Disney World hotel in Lake Buena Vista (Florida, USA) designed to enjoy the franchise created by George Lucas in the 1970s, will close its doors at the end of next September after little more than a year of operations.

Walt Disney World reported this Friday the closure of the establishment that opened its doors in March 2022 without specifying the reasons, which appear to be economic and not related to the conflict between the company and the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, according to the analysis of the local press.

Local media recall that after having higher-than-expected sales, reservations quickly stagnated, forcing Disney to seek cost savings for an experience that costs thousands of dollars per person, for a two-day stay.

The final voyage of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will take place September 28-30, 2023. We are so proud of all the cast members who brought it to life.”, indicates a statement published on one of the websites of disneyworldwhich also indicates that it is expected “provide an excellent experience to visitors during the remaining trips in the coming months”.

Guests who have previously booked travel on or after September 30, 2023 will be contacted by the company.

Local media also collect a statement from the company in which it states that Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of Walt Disney World’s most creative projects that “has been praised by guests and recognized for setting a new standard for innovation and entertainment.”

This ‘premium’ boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms and as we prepare for her final journey we will take what we have learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests.”, he emphasizes.

starcruiser includes role-playing games with the participation of the passengers (guests) of the Halcyon interstellar cruise ship, protagonist of the five-comedy miniseries “Star Wars: Halcyon Legacy”.

The hotel has one hundred rooms that reproduce cabins that start at a price of about US$1,200 (about 1,109 euros) a night per person, designed in the style of the galactic saga and with “views” of space that continually change during the journey.

The rooms offer a screen where the android D3-09 is available, which works based on Artificial Intelligence.

The company conceived the hotel as a combination of atmosphere, food and stay that would allow its “passengers living the star wars dream in real life”, in which they interact with crew members, robots and characters from the saga.

This Thursday Walt Disney Company officially canceled a project to relocate some of its corporate divisions to Lake Nona, in Orlando, Florida, which would have provided more than 2,000 jobs, amid a legal battle between the entertainment company and the state governor, the Republican Ron DeSantis.

The conflict began after the company publicly opposed a law promoted by the governor known by its critics as “Don’t Say Gay”, and shortly after DeSantis promoted a law to remove self-government in his possessions in Florida, after more than 50 years.
