The president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, received the Russian nasal vaccine against the coronavirus as part of the tests carried out by the Gamaleya Center, creator of the Sputnik V preparation, the president himself reported.
In a meeting with members of the Russian Cabinet, the head of the Kremlin recalled that last Sunday he was revaccinated against the coronavirus with the Russian single-dose drug Sputnik Light.
The next day, Putin said, he was administered the nasal form of the vaccine, which is currently in the testing phase.
The Russian president had previously expressed his desire to participate in the trials of the nasal preparation, the development of which Russia reported last summer.
“I sat for about fifteen minutes (after getting the vaccine) and that’s it. I did not feel anything. Absolutely nothing”Said the Russian leader.
Putin was vaccinated in February against the coronavirus, but only revealed in June that the Sputnik V vaccine had been inoculated, which is licensed in 71 countries so far and has an efficacy of 97.6%, although it is not yet approved by the World Organization of the Health (WHO) nor by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
The head of the Kremlin again today insisted on the need for vaccination and revaccination against the coronavirus, at the same time that he was against the obligation of the procedure and emphasized the importance of awareness campaigns.
The Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Tatiana Gólikova, placed the herd immunity against the coronavirus in Russia at 50.4% and announced that throughout the day the country would register its first vaccine for minors between 12 and 17 years old.
In an attempt to raise awareness of the need for the vaccine, doctors at major Russian hospitals today released an open letter inviting some well-known critics of immunization to visit hospital intensive care units to see with their own eyes the situation caused by the disease.
Russia registered 33,558 new cases of coronavirus and 1,240 deaths from the infection in the last 24 hours.
