The Armed Forces of Ecuadoralong with the National Police of that country, issued a statement after the Ecuadorian president William Lasso decided to apply the “cross death” and dissolved the National Assembly.
In view of the event, the entities indicated that “They will maintain their position of absolute respect for the Constitution and the laws, and their decision to protect the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens within the framework of the Rule of Law.”
They also affirmed that the position of the National Assembly to impeach the president politically is based on a provision of the Fundamental Letters, while Lasso’s decision to dissolve Congress is subject to a constitutional norm and “must be fully and completely respected by all citizens.”

The Armed Forces and the National Police also commented that they are obedient institutions and not deliberative.
On the other hand, they warned that the country will not accept any attempt to alter the constitutional order through violence.
Finally, they called for the unity of Ecuadorians so that a climate of respect for the law can be maintained without violence.
