The largest refinery in Libya resumes its activity after twelve years of closure

The president of the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC), Farhat Bengdara, announced on Saturday the reactivation of the Ras Lanuf complex, one of the main oil industries that has a petrochemical plant and the largest refinery in the country.

The complex, capable of processing 220,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd), will begin operating at 70% of its capacity and will gradually increase its activity in the following days.

“With great effort, determination and on the part of the Libyans, the maintenance of the units of the Ras Lanuf industrial complex was completed,” Bengdara declared today about this facility closed since the 2011 uprising against Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

Libya currently produces around 1.2 million barrels per day and the Corporation recently announced strategic plans to increase oil and gas production and enhance cooperation with international companies in the field of exploration.

The Oil Budget Monitoring Committee is evaluating a development plan to reach a production of two million barrels per day, which will be submitted to the Higher Energy Council for discussion and approval.

The Central Bank of Libya reported this week that revenues from oil exports in the first quarter of the year, from January to April, amounted to 31.9 billion Libyan dinars (6.116 million euros) and that general state spending reached 24.9 billion Libyan dinars. dinars (4.774 million euros).
