The incident occurred on May 13, 2022 during a match between Lokomotiv and Uralochka. During one of the time-outs, Voronkov, who at that time was the coach of the Kaliningraders, called the Cuban Ailama Montalvo from the Yekaterinburg team a monkey. Uralochka urged Voronkov to apologize for his remarks about the black volleyball player, and the athlete herself left the club.
