Australian police have arrested an activist from the environmental organization Extinction Rebellion on Friday after he climb the tower of the Arts Center of the city of Melbourne to promote a series of protests planned in May to demand action against the climate crisis.

The Police of the Victoria region, quoted by Efe, has indicated that the man was arrested for allegedly “disturbing public order”in the framework of a peaceful protest that brought together some thirty people in the vicinity of said building, located in the center of Melbourne.

Among the Extinction Rebellion activists were several people dressed in red robes and their faces painted white, while several protesters alluded to the climate emergency with banners, according to a video posted on the organization’s social networks.

We are at the climate end game and we need to act NOW!”, read the message of Extinction Rebellion that called for the marches in Melbourne at the end of the month.

The movement, which emerged in 2018 in the United Kingdom and has spread to more than fifty countries, is characterized by carrying out non-violent acts of civil disobedience in various parts of the planet and, among its protests, actions such as pouring red liquids, block access, chain themselves to trains or stick to works of art.
