commented on Monday methane regulation, which is being worked on in the European Parliament. – It is a deadly threat to the functioning of hard coal, for Silesia, because it is still one of the main industries in this region, and also for Poland. is and will be the basis of our energy sector for many years to come. Eliminating its mining would be a huge blow to our security – said Sasin after the meeting of the Parliamentary Team for the Silesian Voivodeship and the Parliamentary Team for Energy, Energy and Mining Transformation in Poland, which took place at the Silesian Voivodeship Office in Katowice.
Jacek Sasin: Until the investment is completed, coal will be the basis of the Polish energy sector
The head of the Ministry of State Assets pointed out that despite large investments in RES and the implementation of plans for the development of nuclear energy, 70 percent of of energy in Poland is produced from coal. “And it will stay that way for a long time, whether you like it or not.” These are the realities. We live in such realities. Investments require not only a lot of money, but also time. By the time these investments are completed, coal will be the basis of the Polish energy sector – emphasized Jacek Sasin.
– This is reflected in government documents, in the currently changed energy policy of Poland until 2040, where we clearly indicate that until the launch of new energy sources that will meet our country’s demand for energy, it will be produced from coal. It would be absolutely irrational for us to close the mines in Poland and at the same time have to import this raw material from abroad – he continued.
Jacek Sasin: We will not close Polish mines faster than our needs dictate
Sasin said that the views of the Polish government were presented to the European Union during the work on the methane regulation. – We said that regardless of the solutions that will be adopted, we will not close Polish mines faster than it results from our needs, possibilities and the provisions of the Social Agreement. Coal mining will be slowly phased out, but it will be done at a pace that will ensure energy security, solve social problems and secure the fate of people currently employed in this sector – emphasized the head of MAP.
