President of Mexico, isolated and treated after contracting COVID-19 for the third time

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is in isolation and under medical treatment after contracting COVID-19 for the third time, the Secretary of the Interior, Adán López, said on Monday, who denied reports that the president had suffered a heart attack.

The 69-year-old president, who suffers from high blood pressure and had a heart attack in 2013, said Sunday that he had tested positive for the disease.

“He is in isolation and under medical treatment, recoveringsaid the secretary. He then explained that the president presented cold symptoms over the weekend, for which he was tested for influenza and COVID-19, and tested positive for the coronavirus disease.

“There was no emergency transfer, there was no fainting as some have tried to make believe”, he detailed. At the suggestion of the doctors, it was decided to isolate him and transfer him to Mexico City from the state of Yucatán, in the southeast of the country, where he was touring, he added.

On Sunday, a local Yucatan newspaper reported that López Obrador, known by the acronym AMLO, would have suffered a “heart attack or a heart complication”, Unleashing a wave of conjectures on social networks about the possibility that his state of health was serious.

“There is nothing like that, they would like to, but he is in perfect health”, added the Secretary of the Interior. According to the newspaper, the president fainted at breakfast at a military base where he was going to hold a meeting with authorities and was taken to the capital.

The official added that AMLO is in the National Palace, the presidential headquarters, and “in two or three days” could resume his daily press conferences. Besides, “stays in constant communication” with his cabinet, he added.
