Millionaire robbery: with false cryptocurrencies they defraud more than 3,000 people

A criminal network is accused of defrauding more than one hundred million euros from more than 3,000 people in different countries through false investments in cryptocurrencies, the Spanish Civil Guard reported Monday.

The Civil Guard arrested one of the alleged members of this organization in Spain in an operation with the collaboration of the security forces of several nations, while another five are being investigated in other countries to which the money was sent as alleged perpetrators.of a worldwide scam”, as detailed in a statement.

The investigation began as a result of a complaint in Spain from one of the possible victims, after which a monitoring of money transfers from Spain to countries such as Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Russia or Israel began.

The network performedaggressive marketing strategies on well-known websites, through phone calls, newspaper advertisements”, text messages to mobile phones and other means, which “promised high returns without risk”, according to the statement.

Once the organization formalized the contract with its victims to make investments in non-existent cryptocurrencies, which normally ranged between 250 and 1,000 euros, it provided them with access to a web page where they could consult the benefits of their investment with false graphs.“, to give “a legal appearance to the operations, thus generating the trust of the victims”, highlighted the Civil Guard.

Investors received constant phone calls in which the fake brokers informed them of the enormous profits obtained and encouraged them to continue with non-existent investments, in some cases convincing their victims to invest all their savings.”, he added.

However, when the victim tried to recover the investment or the benefits obtained, they asked for more money with different excuses “such as the payment of taxes or the closing of annual balance sheets, producing a second deception”, he added.
