The chief executive of the media and entertainment group NBCUniversalJeff Shell, announced this Sunday that he is leaving the company after an internal investigation in response to an “inappropriate relationship” he had with an employee.
“Today is my last day as CEO of NBCUniversal. I had an inappropriate relationship with a woman from the company, which I deeply regret,” Shell said in a brief statement issued by Comcast, the company’s owner.
According to Comcast, the executive’s departure is by mutual agreement and is effective immediately.
“I am truly sorry to have let my colleagues at Comcast and NBCUniversal down, they are the most talented people in the business and the opportunity to work with them for the past 19 years has been a privilege,” Shell said.
The company did not provide further details about the episode that led to the departure of the CEO, beyond that an investigation led by an external expert was carried out in response to a complaint of inappropriate conduct.
For now, Comcast has not announced who will replace Shell at the helm of NBCUniversal, one of the largest media and entertainment conglomerates in the United States.
Shell had been at the helm of the company for just over three years, where he had previously held other senior positions.
