The two Air Force planes that have flown to Djibouti to evacuate about 80 peoplebetween Spaniards, Europeans and South Americans, who were trapped in Sudan, have taken off this Sunday night from the Sudanese capital, as reported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Albares.
“They just took off from Khartoum Air Force planes with our citizens and the Spanish Embassy in Sudan on board. Other European and Latin American citizens also travel. No incident in the transfer of our convoy”, the minister published on the social network Twitter. Albares also called “for a ceasefire and to resume dialogue in Sudan”.
The Spanish military plane took off from Khartoum shortly before 11 p.m. (Madrid time) with around a hundred passengers of eight nationalities (Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Irish, Mexican, Venezuelan, Colombian and Argentine), as well as Spanish and Sudanese.
In addition to those evacuated in today’s operation, another group of Spaniards decided, voluntarily, stay in Sudan or abandon it by other means, while others had already managed to leave the country before the implementation of this device.
The transfer operation from the Spanish Embassy in Khartoum took place without no kind of incident thanks to a security device to guarantee the integrity of the transfer for the members of the convoy.
The operation, by the Spanish Armed Forces, It has been made up of four Air and Space Army planes, which have operated between Djibouti and Spain to transport all the material and military personnel involved in the operation, which has been carried out from Khartoum airport. For this, it has involved about 200 soldiers from the Land and Air Forces.
Likewise, from Djibouti, we have had the support of the staff of the Orion Detachment, which has become an advanced base for the deployment of the Operation for the evacuation of Spanish civilian personnel in Sudan after the outbreak of the armed conflict.
