Venezuela lost US$ 29,000 million a year since 2015 due to sanctions

The executive vice president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, assured this Friday that, since 2015, the country has lost 29,000 million dollars each year due to the international sanctions that weigh on the so-called Bolivarian revolution, especially on the state oil company PDVSA.

“Since 2015, the loss has been US$ 232,000 million (…) which meant, at the time, 99% of the income in foreign currency. It is a way of completely annihilating entire towns.”, said the official during the seminar “National Unit for the Recovery of the Venezuelan Economy before the International Blockade“, in Caracas.

This money that the country stopped receiving, he explained, “translates into loss of life, food and education”, as well as in “development lossesof the nation.

In front of former presidents Rafael Correa (Ecuador) and Ernesto Samper (Colombia), Rodríguez assured that there are some 20,000 unilateral coercive measures in force in the world, applied mainly by the United States, on 35 countries, among which Cuba and Nicaragua stood out.

The Government of Nicolás Maduro denounces that the United States, the European Union and other Western countries have applied 929 sanctions against it since 2015, when a US executive order that considered Venezuela “an unusual and extraordinary threat” gave rise, in the opinion of Chavismo, to a policy of international restrictions on the Caribbean country.

The estimated losses by Venezuela focus on the sanctions applied to the oil industry, a sector that has registered general restrictions since 2019.
