The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine reported today that the State debt amounted in 2022 to the equivalent of 71.6% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), compared to 43.3% in 2021, the year before the Russian invasion.
In 2022, the nominal GDP fell from 200,000 to 161,000 million dollars (from 182,000 to 146,000 million euros, at the exchange rate), as detailed by the Ministry on its Twitter account.
At the same time, the debt amounted to US$101.6 billion compared to the previous year, when it was US$86.6 billion (92 billion and 79 billion euros respectively).
Said amount includes the US$ 63.600 million of external debt (57,000 million euros) and the 38,000 of domestic debt (34.600 million euros).
In addition, according to data from the Ministry, the sum of the state debt and the debt guaranteed by the State amounted to 78.5% of GDP at the end of 2022, from 48.9% a year earlier.
According to the “Ukrinform” agency, throughout 2022 Kiev made debt payments worth US$ 448.6 billion (408 billion euros), and returned another 156.5 billion (142 billion euros) in interest.
