The fire exchange between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) has marked its second day with constant attacks in both directions, without signs of a ceasefire and a relentless rise in casualtiesamounting to 15 dead – all Palestinians – and some 150 wounded.

What began yesterday as an Israeli “preemptive offensive” through airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, has become the most serious spike in violence in the area since the 2021 escalation of violence.

Since early morning today and throughout the day, the anti-aircraft alarms have not stopped sounding in the Israeli communities bordering Gaza due to the incessant firing of rockets by the Jihad.

Since the firing of the first projectiles yesterday in response to the Israeli attack, it is estimated that the Islamist group has already launched more than 350 rockets, the vast majority of which have hit open areas or have been intercepted by the Israeli Dome anti-aircraft defense system. of iron.

The Israeli Army, for its part, continues to bombard the entire length and breadth of the Strip, including a major attack that has destroyed a five-story residential building.

Among the targets hit there are also facilities allegedly used by the YIP for the manufacture and storage of weapons, military checkpoints and sites from which rockets were launched, attacked by drones, helicopters and combat aircraft.

The number of Palestinian victims has been growing over the hours and includes the death today of a 62-year-old woman, which adds to the death yesterday of a five-year-old girl.
