The Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, assured this Tuesday that Spain will soon send to Ukraine, before the end of this month of April, the six Leopard 2A4 battle tanks. Robles has advanced this information a few hours after receiving her Ukrainian counterpart in Madrid, Oleksii Reznikovwith whom he will hold several working meetings on the help that Spain is providing to Kyiv to defend itself against Russian aggression.
According to Defense sources, Oleksii Reznikov will be received this Wednesday at the headquarters of the department led by Margarita Robles and there both will hold a meeting to address the evolution of the war in Ukraine.
On the other hand, during his stay in the capital, Reznikov will visit the Gómez Ulla Central Defense Hospital, where he will appreciate the work of the doctors responsible for treating the injured Ukrainians, whom he will take advantage of to visit. Similarly, the Ukrainian minister will hold a videoconference with other wounded soldiers who are recovering at the Orad y Gajías General Defense Hospital in Zaragoza.
In addition, Reznikov and Robles will take advantage of lunch to hold another work meeting with their teams, in which the Ukrainian minister will probably be interested in the imminent shipment from Spain of the six Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks that have already been fine-tuned and are being tested these days. Subsequently, another four units of this tank will be sent, as advanced by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.
These battle tanks are of the 2A4 model and are included among the more than fifty that were in disuse for a decade and stored in some facilities of the Army in Casetas (Zaragoza). As pointed out in his day RoblesSpain will limit the shipment to ten unitssince to increase this number a very important economic effort would have to be made and spend a lot of repair time, since those already conditioned required between 2,500 and 3,400 hours of work each.
