The American company of electric cars Tesla set up a new center in Shanghai to make its Megapack batteries, Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported.
The plant, which will have an initial capacity of 10,000 Megapack batteries per year, is scheduled to start producing “in the second quarter of 2024″according to this source.
This will be Tesla’s second factory in Shanghai, after a large plant opened in 2019.
The Megapack batteries, designed to store energy and stabilize power supply to electrical networks, can each store more than three megawatt hours.
This announcement comes after Tesla founder Elon Musk presented investors with an ambitious growth plan.
At the beginning of March, it confirmed the construction in Mexico of another factory, for the assembly of cars, near Monterrey.
