Peter Murrellhusband of former Scotland Chief Minister Nicola Sturgeon, was released last night without chargeafter he was detained for several hours in connection with an investigation into the finances of the Scottish National Party (SNP), the Scottish Police have reported.
In a statement, the Police have also indicated that the agents searched “several addresses as part of the investigation” and that a report will be produced which will be forwarded to the prosecution.
Sturgeon had announced her resignation last February as Scotland’s chief minister and leader of the SNP, and was replaced last week by Humza Yousaf after an internal election.
The former independence leader, who maintains her seat in the Holyrood Parliament (Edinburgh), “will fully cooperate with Police Scotland if required, although no such request has been made so far,” her spokesperson said yesterday.
