The charges against Donald Trump They are already public and there are more than thirty. Specifically, there are 34, all of them related to the falsification of business records in the first degreewhich constitute violations of article 175.10 of the US Penal Code. The ex-president has pleaded “not guilty” this Tuesday before the judge, in a historic day in New York, where his court appearance has been wrapped in enormous expectation.

The Prosecutor’s Office has detailed that Trump would have falsified these documents to hide information and “cover up criminal conduct” that would have harmed him in the 2016 election campaign. The indictment document, signed by the Manhattan District Attorney, Alvin Braggdetails each of those 34 charges and breaks down the different false entries that the tycoon would have made “with the intent to defraud and commit another crime and facilitate and conceal its commission“.

An allusion that is not trivial, since, according to Reuters, makes the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony. Thus, according to the same agency, the 34 charges of which the ex-president is accused would add up to a total maximum sentence of 136 years in prison under New York law, although even if convicted, the penalty would in all probability be much less. And it is that, always according to Reuters, although falsifying business records in New York is a misdemeanor punishable with no more than one year in prison, it becomes a felony punishable by up to four years in jail if it is done to facilitate or conceal another crime.

11 of those charges are related to invoices issued by then-Trump attorney Michael Cohen, who has already pleaded guilty and is expected to be one of the main witnesses in the case. The 34 charges are very similar, but refer to crimes committed within a range of 11 months in 2017, between February and December.
