The US Pentagon will issue decks of playing cards depicting weapons systems of NATO countries to help Ukrainian troops distinguish the weapons supplied to them from those of the enemy, writes The New York Times, citing the US Army Training and Doctrine Administration.

Department spokesman Major Andrew Harshbarger told the publication that such a deck of cards will help the military learn to quickly “identify enemy military equipment and distinguish it from the weapons of friendly forces.” Without mentioning Ukraine directly, he noted that the new training tool is focused on NATO weapons that were supplied to countries outside the alliance.

According to the newspaper, the deck contains images of 52 different tanks, armored personnel carriers, trucks, artillery pieces and other weapons systems. At the same time, according to the publication, the maps show weapons that were either sent to Ukraine or used to train the Ukrainian military. For example, on the six of clubs, the HIMARS MLRS is depicted, on the seven of spades, the German Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, and the French Caesar self-propelled guns are shown on the deuce of hearts. At the same time, there is no hierarchy in the importance of weapons in the deck.

Harshbarger recalled that the Pentagon has already released similar decks in the past, thus introducing its soldiers to samples of Chinese, Russian and Iranian military equipment. The idea, he says, goes back to World War II, when maps showed fighter jets used by allies and their enemies.
